AAACO NEWS Vol. XXI No. 1 Adams-Millis Corporation January, 1963 MEET YOUR SUPERVISOR In all probability, the man seated behind this desk has had his signature appear on more checks in this area than any other single person. He is J. W. Rose, Adams-Millis Corpora tion's credit manager, bookkeeping department head and administrator of the employee group insurance program. As such, for more than thirty-five years, his name has been seen on all Adams-Millis payroll checks as well as on all checks written in payment of employee group insurance benefits; in addition, he is authorized to sign regular checks as well. However, he insists that, materially, he is the poorest man in the world ever to have signed away so much money. James W. Rose was born to Lula Moseley and Andrew Jackson Rose in Concord, N. C. When he was five years old, his parents moved to Selma, N. C. , where his father was employed as a cotton mill superintendent. Jim attended school in Selma and then for two and one-half years worked as a payroll clerk for Locke Cotton Mill in Concord and earned enough money to attend Draughan's Business College in Columbia, S. C. Upon completing his business studies, he came to High Point and applied to Mr. J. H. Adams, a per sonal friend of his father's, for em ployment with Piedmont Hosiery Company. On March 22, 1922, he came to work as payroll and book keeping assistant to Mr. J. V. Gar rett, one of Piedmont's four office employees. In 1928, Piedmont Ho siery Company, High Point Hosiery Company, Kernersville Knitting Company and Pointer Hosiery Company merged and became Adams-Millis J. W. ROSE Corporation; and, at that time, Jim was promoted to head of the bookkeep ing department. He became adminis trator of the group insurance program when it was inaugurated in 1932; and, in 1959, was also named credit mana ger. With the help of two assistants, he most ably performs all of these dutie s. On September 5, 1925, Jim was married to Miss Esther Hall, a native of Claudeville, Virginia, who was then employed by Edwards Business College in High Point. They reside at 802 Parkway in High Point and have one daughter, Mrs. William B. (June) Curtiss, a former Julliard student of piano and at present a private piano teacher in her home in Columbis, S. C. A charter member of Emerywood Baptist Church, Jim has served as church treasurer and deacon since its inception in 1956. He is also a mem ber of the High Point Civitan Club and a member of the Piedmont Chapter of the National Association of Accountants. (Continued on page two)
